ROOTS PARTY RE-IMAGINED
Roots Party is one of Kenya's fastest-rising political parties, positioning itself as an alternative voice for a younger generation of voters. Its identity is bold, unconventional, and unapologetically different from traditional political organizations, advocating for progressive ideas that resonate with Gen Z and millennials. Despite its unique political positioning, the party's digital presence did not reflect its personality or ambitions. The existing website lacked a modern visual identity, intuitive navigation, engaging storytelling, and the energy expected by digitally native audiences. My objective was to completely rethink the experience—not simply redesign the interface—but create a platform that communicates the movement's vision, attracts young supporters, and encourages participation through a modern digital experience.
Challenge
The biggest challenge was translating an unconventional political movement into a credible, accessible, and engaging digital experience. Political websites in Kenya often follow outdated layouts filled with lengthy text, poor visual hierarchy, and little emphasis on user interaction. This approach does not appeal to younger audiences who consume information quickly across mobile devices and social media.
Approach
Rather than beginning with visual design, I first studied how political organizations communicate online, comparing local Kenyan parties with modern international political campaigns. This research helped identify common usability issues, outdated interaction patterns, and opportunities to introduce a more contemporary experience.
Outcome
The final product delivers a modern political website that balances credibility with youthful energy. The redesign transforms the party's online presence from a static information portal into a digital platform capable of communicating ideas, building trust, and encouraging civic participation.
Project Scope
Each case study combines product thinking, visual direction, and implementation awareness so the final outcome is not just attractive, but practical to build and scale.
